Rarely is there cause to blame oneself for a tragedy, but it’s easy to do. Guilt can creep in so quickly. I think it’s the devil trying to attack us, especially women.
Don’t do it. Don’t mix grief and guilt. It’s a very bad combination.
What we need is repentance. There’s a big difference between guilt and repentance. Guilt is hopeless. It’s Judas hanging himself. Repentance is resolve to change and hope of forgiveness. It’s Peter weeping.
Regardless of relation to a tragedy, we all need to repent. Repentance brings healing. Guilt weighs us down. Seeking God’s grace and healing through repentance is a healthy way to grieve.
